Buddy Holly and the Crickets-That’ll Be the Day.

This tune wasn’t just catchy, it was awe inspiring and completely different than any other song up until then. Holly used double-tracking– the lineup of two guitars, bass and drums. This all became even more memorable when Holly was killed in a plane crash in early 1959 (“the day the music died”).

The title, and in fact the song’s inspiration, were from the classic John Wayne western called The Searchers. Something that you may not know is that the song, ” That’ll be the Day” was the first recorded by a band called the Quarrymen. They were later known as the Beatles.
