The murder rate was just 4 murders per 100,000  and had not risen a great deal in several years.

The Median Household Income was about $6,450  dollars for the average worker. The average production line worker was making about 3 dollars an hour.

The minimum wage in 1965 $1.25 per hour, equivalent to $9.96 in 2018 dollars.

Groceries were beginning to rise in price to reflect the slightly higher inflation. Bacon was 69 cents a pound and eggs 53 for a dozen. A gallon of milk cost about $.95and a loaf of bread was approximately 25 cents.

Postage – Sending a letter across the country would cost you  $.05 in postage.

Gasoline – A gallon of gas cost about 31 cents.

1965’s Favorite Car? Caroll Shelby’s Ford Mustang GT 350 was the car to beat in 1965.The sticker price for that V8 car in 1965 was about $2734.

The Gemini III mission launches in March and is the first of the Gemini missions to be manned. It carried astronauts Virgil Grissom and John Young.

The Midwest region of the United States experienced  multiple tornadoes on Palm Sunday in 1965. Tornadoes hit six states, including Iowa, Michigan, Illinois, Wisconsin, Indiana, and Ohio. There were forty-seven tornadoes  reported and confirmed. Hundreds of millions of dollars in damage and more than 250 fatalities were confirmed .
